Backgrounds & Visual Development Work
BACKGROUND DESIGN PROJECT
For my Background & Environmental Concepts module, I was assigned to create two Background designs inspired by one of my favourite studios- Cartoon Saloon. We were directed to create two backgrounds of differing angles (Establishing shot & Close up) and lighting (Daytime & Sunset).
​The backgrounds I have designed are based on a personal project called These Little Things. My first idea was to create an establishing shot of the town in which the story takes place. My second concept features a close up shot of the Corner Shop.

WAITING
Waiting is a short animation project I worked on in my third year of Digital Animation Production. It is also based on my personal project These Little Things.

The short was a simple introduction to some of the characters in the story. I wanted to depict a wholesome and relatable experience of a hot summer day. The characters are seen doing mundane acts as they await the arrival of the ice cream van.
MOVING ON
Moving On is a Short Film Project I was involved in during the second year of the Digital Animation Production Course. During the project I had to fulfil multiple roles including Background Design, Cleanup, and Animation.
CONTENTED MEDIOCRACIES
Contented Mediocracies was my fourth year animation project. It consists of a series of background designs that shows simple everyday instances.
The objective was to improve my knowledge of the fundamental drawing skills (lighting, colour, shape, composition, perspective etc.) and to create BGs for my portfolio.
Edward Hopper’s ability to force the viewer to complete the narratives of his paintings is the most notable reason why his work became the main inspiration for this project. By means of these background images, I hope to provide a glimpse into the world of an unknown character.
